   In the press conference jointly sponsored by Shandong Province People’s Government and Dezhou City People’s Government, Wu Cuiyun, mayor of Dezhou introduced the following information.

   It was reported that the session of International Solar Cities Initiative will be held in September 2010. The theme of the session is “Solar Energy Changes Life”. By the time, over 1000 government officials, experts and scholars from different countries and regions will demonstrate latest achievement of research and use of solar energy and to discuss future encouraging solar energy comprehensive use and industrial development

   International Solar Cities Initiative (ISCI) Congress is an international conference launched by ISCI. The aim of the Congress is to improve energy using efficiency so as to construct renewable energy cities through active communication and cooperation among international Solar Cities.

   ISCI was separated in 2000 from World Solar Energy Society, a NGO recognized by UN and organized by World Advanced Cities in utilization of renewable energy resource.

   The Congress is held biannually. The first three sessions of the Congress were held in Deagu Korea, Oxford UK and Adelaide Australia respectively. Members of the Congress are from 34 countries and regions. ISCI has become an important platform for people to discuss solar energy comprehensive use and industrial development and to boost environment protection and energy saving industry.

   Dezhou is not only known to be “one of 100 cities strong in comprehensive economy of China”, and “Chinese Excellent Tourism City”, but the relatively large manufacture base of solar collectors around the world. Dezhou is leading China’s solar industry and its application.
   According to Wu Cuiyun’s introduction, by 2008, there were more than 100 solar industry related firms in Dezhou with sale income of over 5,000,000,000 Chinese Yuan. These firms own 586 patents right for solar products, undertake 5 technical tasks of solar energy including one in the nation’s “863 Program”. In mean time, these companies actively promote solar application, solar collector integration with building. Thanks to their outstanding effort, the merits achieved are: 80% of civil building in the city and 50% of residential communities installed with solar collectors, over 100 villages facilitated with solar bath rooms, by promoting solar lamp installation, Chonghe Park covering 1,800 Chinese acres totally lighted by solar lamps, the first one in mainland China.
   Wu Cuiyun further told that, according to the planning, by 2012, Dezhou solar industry will achieve production value of 20,000,000,000 Chinese Yuan for solar industry and 10,000,000,000 Chinese Yuan for photovoltaic industry.
